How to Study for B.A.M.S 1st Prof. – Guide

This post helps to answer all the ques one has in mind while enters in B.A.M.S. first prof. and also answer how to study

Most of you reading this article must be wondering or curious about what we need to study and what’s important and what’s not ? Which language should be written in exam and which should not be ? How to answer long ques ? Does learning shloka is necessary or even thinking about quitting B.A.M.S. and going to prep for Neet – ug again! And even some might think ” Hum kha aagaye kya kar rahe hai ya Baba ban rahe hai” so in this article i will try to answer all your questions with the data collected from all the team members. Got more questions other then mentioned in article ? Mention them in comment section we will surely answer as well as include it our article 😊

Before starting with the answers of above mentioned ques or about how to study the one should first of all get the answer what exactly B.A.M.S. and what are the benefits or aims for it. ( Most of you will think you aren’t here know it or either you know most about it but here i am not talking about full form or the things we study here it’s much deeper). According to me this post is mainly for those who had just started their journey about B.A.M.S. either by choice or becoz they didn’t scored good or received admission to M.B.B.S. So these both type of person need to know what are they Getting out of this. ( I will explain breifly about this topic here before getting to the Topic : the reason you are here but detailed expect about it will be written in another article).

So what exactly is B.A.M.S ?

It’s the only field in medical profession which allows you to study both Allopathy as well as Ayurveda ( here you learn treatment from modern medicine as well traditional), you might have seen most of the people performing the traditional medicine treat disorders that weren’t treated or as said can’t be treated the reason for this is that the traditional medicine works for the root cause of disease and once the root is destroyed then how can a disease still remain? Just like a tree without root can’t with stand. It doesn’t work like any other medical sign just working on signs and symptoms to make temporary relief. As working on the root or destroying it takes time so i would agree that it works little bit slow than other Science but removes the disease for lifetime ( what is better to have complete cure or temporary repeatedly relief). This Science not even works on diseases but also let’s us know how to remain healthy throughout the life. The ras Shastra is powerful enough to treat any sort of disease said as incurable from every Medical stream. Also Panchkarma helps in destroying the root of disease. Apart for that we get the benefit to study allopathy ( modern medicine ) isn’t it? So we could even work on signs and symptoms to make patient relax at first and then destroy the root of disease. It can’t be done by any other stream. So this is real B.A.M.S.!

Now coming back to the topic How to study! So before knowing how to study let’s get the answer of what to study?

So B.A.M.S 1st prof consist of 5 subjects much similar to M.B.B.S. all subjects same except one in modern part😊 can you guess that subject which isn’t same? Yes got it right it’s Bio chemistry. So in this section i will let you know about subjects and what you will study in them.

  • Sharir Rachna :- modern comparison of this subject is Anatomy. As the name suggests shair means body and Rachna means formation so In this subject you learn about how body is organised/ how body is formed to what it consists of like body parts, their location, Their layers. The reason to study is a person should know that what’s present inside body so that he could treat according to that. Example would make my point clear ( a person comes to you and say my stomach is paining so if you know what’s present in that area/ region like liver, pancreas etc. etc. so then you may think about there can be a problem regarding liver) also in this subject you learn about their formation how this body part originated so that if any deformity then you may treat it. Basically this subject lets you know normal body ( it’s most important part as a person knowing what’s normal can easily dig out what’s abnormal/ what needs to be cured) obviously anything apart from normal is abnormal. Starting steps towards the treatment.
  • Sharir Kriya :- It’s also same as it’s name suggests Kriya means functions and sharir means body so in this subject we will learn about function of various body parts ( organs, fluids etc). Also learn about how things happen like how we hear, speak etc and in Ayurveda we learn same concept with tridosh ( vaat, pitt, Kaff). From physiology we can easily understand and learn Pathology.
  • Sanskrit :- As language is important to understand everything from talking to understanding what is said. Without language we can not talk to each other, share or express our feeling. Similarly in traditional medicine the main text is in the form of dev nagari or sanskrit so similarly we should learn it’s language to understand it. I agree now a days whole the classical text had been translated in Hindi and English. So u may over power the importance of sanskrit but if you can understand it you may express the classical words of Acharyas in your feeling and get a better understanding.
  • Padarth vigyan & History of Ayurveda :- Padarth means matter and vigyan means science so it means since of matter in this subject we learn about how this universe originated or will be destroyed, how ayurveda was originated in history and changes made till now, future scope, also will find ways to check what is true with different types of parmans, types of matter and origin of Ayurveda, man, universe. Most of the concept will be you will fell like you are reading pravachans but after understanding and applying them in your knowledge/life it will be awesome for all ( not only you but also your surroundings) once a great author said ” to destroy misconception you need to know more about facts similarly the more you know about origion the more you can improve your life”.
  • Astang Hridya :- The first practical utility subject in 1st Prof. In praise of this ancient treate it’s said by Acharya Vaghbhatt that ” one don’t need to study any other ancient treate can start treating patients” in syllabus theirs is only sutra sthan which can be divided into 2 parts first one let’s you know origin of Ayurveda as well as how you can remain healthy and second part lets you know about different practices for treatment like Panchkarama, deepan etc.
After knowing about subjects now getting to no. Of marks and no. Of exams knowledge is important so now in this section we will let you know about it :-
  • Sharir Rachna :- 2 exams (200 marks) and 1 practical exam ( 100 marks) Modern and Ayurvedic portion both equal propotion ( 50 marks each in both exams)
  • Sharir Kriya :- 2 exams (200 marks) and 1 practical exam ( 100 marks) Modern and Ayurvedic portion both equal propotion ( 50 marks each in both exams)
  • Sanskrit :- 1 exam (100 marks) 50 marks literature and 50 marks Grammar.
  • Padarth vigyan & history of Ayurveda :- 2 exams (200 marks)
  • Astang Hridya :- 1 exam ( 100 marks) and 1 practical 50 marks

Finally we reached the main portion the reason brought you here how to study :-

This section will be divided into 2 portion first of all section 1 will let you know about how to study far before exams and the second section will let you know how to study during the exam

Section 1 : Far before the exams
  • Sharir Rachna :- one should firstly study bones & organs with each correlation with each other ( here co- relation means that if you start a bone for eg. humerus then with it should you do arteries, veins, nerve supply, and also the muscle and joint with it) this way makes easy to learn, remember and understand the path for it. For a single part like for doing this 7-10 days will be sufficient to complete progressing daily. And while proceeding Brain one should not start it from being but from ending means one should not start from fore brain but should start from spinal cord which makes it easy to understand and after spinal cord go for studying embliyal origin of Brain. Yes i forgot one thing to mention before starting to study all of these one should learn about basics about plains and hindi names of organs & bones for better understanding to earlier mentioned topics. For basics i would suggest gernal Anatomy by BD chaurasia or Handbook of anatomy by BD chaurasia will clear your basics ( link in books section). And hindi names of organs and bones is provided in another article in site ( search in search box) after basics you are ready to proceed earlier told way. And now how to proceed ayurvedic approach one should study anatomy and padarth, and also physiology simultaneously it makes easy to corelate.
  • Sharir Kriya :- for physiology/ sharir kriya ( comparatively easy subject than anatomy) as already told here we learn about functioning of body. Here one should focus on ayurvedic expect more than the modern expect. While studying one should go in deeper understanding about functioning of doshas and for physiology we will suggest to study regularly with deeper understanding. Now coming towards how to study one should firstly have a view about doshas and how they constitute in the body and their formation like vaat dosh is similar to vayu ( air) air can be cool as well as hot ( that means it’s yogvahi) movable ( chal), air withrows moisture so it’s ruksh. Here what i mean to say is learning with comparision will make a strong foundation. Similarly for their functions in body
  • Ashtang Hridya :- interesting as well as you will learn things you can see in your daily life should be studied regularly. 1 chapter should be completed in max. 3 days. While studying about last chapters one should prefer videos of procedure ( can be easily found on YouTube) it makes better understanding and once you understand you may proceed with writing.
  • Sanskrit :- one should firstly focus on leaning grammar starting with learning to translate sentences. For translation you may try what i did it’s different from conventional teaching method learning shabd roop, etc etc. So what i did was took a sanskrit story book ( even syllabus book will work) try reading the sanskrit sentence then thought for a sec what it’s meaning would be then read the hindi similarly for the next and this way I could understand sanskrit and also how words matter. Now coming back to conventional way first of all learn shabadroop and dhaturoop ( 1 from all 3 genders puling, striling & napustankling) after learning it go for sandhi and then karak then proceed with translation ( English to sanskrit and vice-versa).
  • Padarth vigyan evam Ayurveda ka ithihas:- for padarth one should study first of all shristi utpati karm and then go for parmas and for history portion it’s given to much then required for this you may study from our site. Now how to study regular study with comparision from day to day examples will work.
Now section 2 : During exams —
  • Sharir Rachna :- one should firstly study brain, then go for garbh vyakaran, marm, and then tantra sharir after studying this one should proceed with learning bones, joints. ( Here topics mentioned are irrespective of their exam either 1 or 2 ).
  • Sharir kriya :- one should first study panch panchak, then go for learning dosh sthan, bhed and karm ( trick provided on site), after learning this one should learn function and harmones of various glands, after this one should learn mechanisms of all 5 sense organs, then go for learning prakrti ( formation, and features), then proceed with normal values of blood TLC etc ( provided on site), then go for saar lakhshan ( saar parikhsa) and lastly for spermatogenesis, oogensis, protiens, blood and digestive tract.
  • Astang Hridya :- one should proceed with the first 15 chapters first ( chapter 8 &15 ) can be skipped during this. The reason for focusing on first 15 chapters is becoz they make of 60 marks, and the reason for skipping (8 &15 the chapter) is becoz their is least chance of ques coming from these becoz these both chapters are forming of complete dravya gunn in second year, and these chapters are very long too. After the first 15 one should go and study tantra yukti and shristi utpati ( these both chapters aren’t provided in astang book but are present in padarth vigyan book and also available at our website) reason for selecting these chapters before remaining 15 chapters is becoz these 2 chapters consist of 10 marks, after that one should go for nasya, basti, kawal, yantra and after then remaining chapters.
  • Sanskrit :- one should firstly study garbh vyakaran ( shushrut samhita sharirsthan chapter 4) becoz it’s easy to learn and consist of 25 marks after this one should proceed with grammar same as told above then proceed with vaidkiya subhaistam ( both as shalok and complete chapter summary ) and finally proceed with aparikshit karyakam / panchtantra.
  • Padarth Vigyan evam Ayurveda ka ithihas :- one should firstly study Darshan nirupan, aptoupdesh, karya karan sidhant, panch panchak , dravya nirupan, upmaan, samnaya, vishesh, abhav padarth after completion of these then can proceed with others ( reason for mentioning firstly above topics is becoz ques are formed mostly consisting of these.
Now after knowing how to study now answer for where to study :-

Now time for answers of above mentioned ques stated in starting :-

You can write both languages in exam either hindi, English ( even sanksrit) as exam is bilanguagal this means that if you don’t know any word in hindi You may proceed with English and vice- versa, no marks deduction for spelling mistakes ( you aren’t giving language exam). Now next ques learn shalok isn’t necessary but if you can learn it makes a good impression and ultimately leading to more marks, also shalok helps to remember things easily. Got more ques?? Comment 😊
