Hormonal Therapy – Goal, Uses, effects

Introduction

Hormonal therapy is a treatment that adds, blocks or removes hormones to slow or stop the growth of cancer cells that need hormones to grow. Hormonal therapy is also called hormone withdrawal therapy, hormone manipulation or endocrine therapy.

It is the a kind of hormones in medical treatment.

Treatment with hormone antagonists may also be referred to as hormonal therapy or antihormone therapy.

The most general classes of hormone therapy are androgen replacement therapy (ART), oral contraceptive pills and transgender hormone therapy , hormone replacement therapy (for menopause) etc.

Goal of hormone therapy

Hormone therapy is a cancer treatment that slows or stops the growth of cancer that uses hormones to grow. Hormone therapy is also called hormonal therapy, hormone treatment, or endocrine therapy.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), also menopausal symptoms. It is based on the artificially boost hormone levels.   • Glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid replacement in conditions such as Addison’s disease.

Hormone therapy is a form of systemic therapy-a way of administering drugs so they travel throughout the body, rather than being delivered directly to the cancer -that works to add, block or remove hormones from the body to slow or stop the growth of cancer cells.
