Immunostimulants – Indication, Important Drugs

Immunostimulants, also known as immunostimulators, are substances (drugs and nutrients) that stimulate the immune system by inducing activation or increasing activity of any of its components. One notable example is the granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor.

Classes of immunostimulants include bacterial vaccines, colony stimulating factors, interferons, interleukins, therapeutic vaccines, vaccine combinations and viral vaccines.

Some immunostimulants drugs

• Copaxone (Pro) Generic name: glatiramer :- This medication is used to treat your immune system from attacking the nerves in your brain and spinal cord. This effect can decrease the number of periods of disease multiple sclerosis (MS). It is a protein that is thought to work by preventing worsening (relapses) and prevent or delay disability.
• Adagen (Pro) Generic name: pegademase bovine. This injection is a modified enzyme used for enzyme replacement therapy for the immunodeficiency disease (SCID) associated with a deficiency of adenosine deaminase. Injection is supplied in an isotonic, pyrogen free, sterile solution, pH 7.2-7.4, for intramuscular injection only. It is supplied in 1.5 mL single-dose vials
• Mozobil (Pro) Generic name: plerixafor .Plerixafor is an immunostimulant used to mobilize hematopoietic stem cells in cancer patients into the bloodstream. The stem cells are then extracted from the blood and transplant back to the patient.
• Revcovi (Pro) Generic name: elapegademase. REVCOVI is indicated for the treatment of adenosine deaminase severe combined immune deficiency (ADA SCID) in pediatric and adult patients.
