Shiva Gutika

“सावघं यदि‌ शुद्धरचना वृत्ताविचार: कृतं। तत्सर्वं पुनरन्न मित्रविघुयै: कार्यं शुभं यत्नन:। सर्वोऽपीह न वेत्ति सर्वमिति विज्ञप्तिर्ममास्तां सतामम्रे।” 

Why named Shiva Gutika ?

  • शिवागुडिकेति रसायनमुक्तं गिरिशेन गणपतये। शिववदनविनिर्गता यस्मान्नाम्ना तस्माच्छिवागुडिका ।। Chakradutta Rasayana 66/195 
    • This Rasayana was told first time By Lord Shiva for Lord Ganpati so known as Shiva Gutika.
  • व्रजति च यया युक्तो योगी शिवस्य समीपतां शिवगुटिकया कस्तामेतां करोति न मानुषः ।। Yogratnakara RajayaKshma 109
    • •A person Practising this Yoga ( Shiva Gutika) becomes close to Shiva, “who will be there who does not want this”. So, called as Shiva Gutika.

Where Shiva Gutika mentioned first ?

*According to Chikitsa Kalika this yoga belongs to Vridha vagbhatta ( Ashtanga Sangraha) , where as According to Nischalkar, Shiv Das Sen, the 2 Comentators on Chakradutta has mentioned that this yoga first time appeared in Shaiva Sidhantam.

But i won’t agree with Chikitsa Kalika as it’s said Shiva told to Ganesha so some Shiva related text should also Should had mentioned it so, I agree with the Nichalkar’s opinion as to me it appears more authentic.

Shilajitu used here is shodita one here i am not mentioning the way of shilajitu Shodhana. Shiva Das sen mentions Shodhana according to Bala of Patint by quoting Ramapradeepa’s Words as रामप्रदीपे- “संमुहकायी विमलेन्द्रियय प्रशस्तनचत्रमुहतंधीरी। पिषेट्ट घतं तितकवायसिद्ध वाई वाई वापि बलानुष्यम्॥ ( Shiva Das sen on Chakradutta )
  • Dossage – one akṣa.
  • Anupana – juice of dădima, milk, water, meat soup, other soups, wine or asava
  • Pathya -use noncereal salutary diet
  • Apathya – Kulatha, Guru bhojana
  • Indications – Anaemia, kuştha, fever, splenomegaly, tamaka (bronchial asthma), piles, anal fistula, dysuria due to obstruction in the urinary passage.
  • Making it more effective – one pala bhasmas of kantalauha and mica

Shiva Gutika-

काले तु रवितापाढचे कृष्णायसर्ज शिलाजतुप्रवरम्। त्रिफलारससंयुक्तं व्यहञ्च शुष्कं पुनः शुष्कम्॥दशमूलस्य गुडूच्या रसे बलायास्तथा पटोलस्य। मधुकरसैर्गोमूत्रे त्र्यहं त्र्यहं भावयेत् क्रमशः॥एकाहं तीरेण तु तत् पुनर्भावयेच्छुष्कम्। सप्ताहं भाव्यं स्यात् क्वाथेनैषा यथालाभम्॥काकोल्यौ द्वे मेदे विदारियुग्मं शतावरी द्राक्षा। ऋद्धियुगर्षभवीरामुण्डितिका जीरकेशुमत्यौ च॥रास्नापुष्कर चित्रकदन्तीभकणाकलिङ्गचव्याब्दाः। कटुका श्रृङ्गी पाठैतानि पलांशिकानि कार्याणि॥अब्द्रोणसाधितानां रसेन पादांशिकेन भाव्यानि। गिरिजस्यैवं भावित-शुद्धस्य पलानि देश षट् च॥द्विपलञ्च विश्वमागधिकाकटुकर्कटाख्यमरिचानाम्। चूर्ण पलञ्च विदार्यास्तालीशपलानि चत्वारि॥षोडश सितापलानि चत्वारि घृतस्य माक्षिकस्याष्टौ। तिलतैलस्य द्विपलं चूर्णार्द्धपलानि पञ्चानाम्॥त्वक्षीरिपत्रत्वङ्‌नागैलानां मिश्रयित्वा तु। गिरिजस्य षोडशपलैर्गुडिकाः

•Ingredients of Kakolyadi kwatha – Ashtavarga, Shathavari, Draksha, Vidari Kanda, Varahi Kanda,mundi,  Krishna And Shwetha Jeeraka, Shalaparni, prishnaparni, Rasna, Pushkaramoola, Chithraka Moola, danthi Moola, gajapippali, indrayava, Chavya, Mustha, Katuki, Karkitashrungi, Maricha Each 40gm, Water -10.24l reduced to ¼ then used for bhavna. Kakolyadi kwatha bhawna 7 times has been told by Gadadhara in Vaidya Prasarkam

Process of making of Shiva Gutika –

Mix all the churnás with suddha śilājatu ( after Bhavna from above dravyas ) first and then add sarkara to it. Then add Chaturjata thoroughly by mixing in khalva yantra. Prepare its pills of 10-12gram ( 1 Aksha Prmana) each by weight uniformly and dry them in shade

Ashtanga Sangraha adds Amla (Emblica officinalis 2 pala also to it), Acording to Indu Pushkarmoola is also added in some texts. Ayurveda Sangraha mentions amount of ingredients differently. Shiva Das Sen says to double the amount of Maricha in Case of Mansa vaha strotas Vikara

Storage of Shiva Gutika –

ताः शुष्का नवकुम्भे जातीपुष्पाधिवासिते स्थाप्याः ( Bhaisjaya Ratnawali 77/160)

On drying, these pills should be stored in wide mouth glass bottles scented with jasmine flowers

Main Ingredient Shilajitu (chakradatta, rasayana 189)

Dossage of Shiva Gutika –

Dossage – one akṣa. (10-12 grams a day)

मात्रशब्देन दोषाद्यपेक्षमाधिक्यमपि प्रदर्शयति| ( indu on Ashtanga sangraha Rasayana 169) अचममा चायुत्तममावा, चतस्तदनुसारच मध्यमाधमपुरुषापेचया मावीचा। ( Shiva Das Sen on Chakradutta Rasayana)

•The dosage can be increased or decreased depending on the condition.

The quantity should be adjusted according to the individual, with a higher dose for a stronger person and a lower dose for a weaker person.

Anupana of Shiva Gutika-

क्षीररसदाडिमरसाः सुरासवं मधु च शिशिरतोयानि । आलोडनानि तासामनुपाने वा प्रशस्यन्ते ॥(chakradatta, rasayana 177)

Anupana: ksheera, mamsa rasa, pomegranate juice, sură, asava, honey and cold water, munnaka ( Added by Ashtanga Sangraha), Munga dala Yusha (Chikitsa Kalika)

Timing for administration of Shiva Gutika- :

तासामेकतमां प्रयोज्य विधिवत्प्रातः पुमान्भोजनात् ( Yog Ratnakar Rajyakshama 104) भुक्त्वाऽपि भक्षितेयं यदृच्छया नावहेद्भयं किञ्चित् । निरुपद्रवा प्रयुक्ता सुकुमारकैः कामिभिश्चैव (Chakradatta, Rasayana 17-9)

Morning or before food( yog ratnakar) , No need to worry even if it is given randomly after meals it does not produce any complication if used by the delicate persons and indulged in intercourse.( Chakradutta).

Pathya Apathya while using Shiva Gutika –

लध्वन्न पयोजाङ्गल निर्यूहयूषभोजी स्यात् । सप्ताहं यावदतः परं भवेत् सर्वसामान्यम् (chakradatta, rasayana 178)

Pathya: : One should take light diet consisting of milk, wild meat and vegetarian soup after digestion of the drug. This diet should be given for a week. Thereafter, routine diet can be given. No need to worry even if it is given randomly after meals it does not produce any complication if used by the delicate persons and indulged in intercourse.

Apathya :- Uncooked and Guru Bhojana ( Yog Ratnakar Rajyakshama 104), Kulatha ( Shiva Das Sen on Chakradutta)

Contraindications Of Shiva Gutika –

अजीर्णे वर्ज्यमित्यर्थः ( indu on Ashtanga sangraha Rasayana 169)

In the state of Ajeerna one should avoid it.

Indications of Shiva Gutika in Diseases-

संवत्सरप्रयुक्ता हन्त्येषा वातशोणितं प्रबलम् । बहुवार्षिकमपि गाढं यचमाणञ्चाक्ष्यवातञ्च ॥ ज्वरयोनिशुक्रदोषप्लीहार्शः पाण्डुसंग्रहणी । ब्रध्नवमिगुल्मपीनसहिक्काकासारुचिश्वासान् ॥ जठरं श्वित्रं कुष्ठं षाण्ढयं क्लैब्यं मदं क्षयं शोषम् ।   उन्मादापस्मारौ वदनाक्षिशिरोगदान् सर्वान् ॥आनाहमतीसारं सासृग्दरं कामलां प्रमेहांश्च यकृदर्बुदानि विद्रधिभगन्दरं रक्तपित्तञ्च ॥ अतिकायमतिस्थौल्यं स्वेदमथ श्लीपदच विनिहन्ति । दंष्ट्राविषं समौलं गराणि खलु बहुप्रकाराणि ॥ (chakradatta, rasayana 180-84)

Additional indications include Kampa (tremors), Shalipada (filariasis), Tuni (spasms), Prtuni (severe spasms), Panataya , Mutra Ashmari (urinary stones), Alshak, and Heelmak (Chikitsa Kalika). Beeja dosha( Shiva Das Sen), Gara Visha ( Shiva Das Sen)

Other Benifits of Shiva Gutika-

मन्त्रौषधिप्रयोगान् विप्रयुक्तान् भीतिकांस्तथा मात्रान्। पोपालक्ष्म्यौ चेयं शमयेद्‌गुडिका शिवानाम्नी ॥ बल्या वृष्या धन्या कान्तियशःश्रीप्रजाकरी चेयम् । chakradatta, rasayana 184

When used with mantras  it alleviates fears and brings Lakshmi, decreases papa karma, bad dreams.The tablet named ‘Shivā’ (possessing auspiciousness and prosperity) will bring relief. It is potent, promotes vitality, increases wealth, enhances beauty, fame, and prosperity, and benefits progeny.

दद्यान्नववल्लभतां जयं विवादे मुखस्था च ॥श्रीमान् प्रकृष्टमेधः स्मृतिबुद्धिबलान्वितोऽतुलशरीरः। पुष्टयोजोवर्णेन्द्रियतेजोबलसम्पदादिसमुपेतः ॥ बलिपलितरोगरहितो जीवेच्छरदां शतद्वयं पुरुषः । संवत्सरप्रयोगाद् द्वाभ्यां शतानि चत्वारि ।   सर्वामयजित् कथितं मुनिगणभचयं रसायनरहस्यम् (chakradatta, rasayana 185-88)

•If kept in mouth it makes one favorable to king and gives victory in debates and disputes. If used regularly for a year, it makes the person endowed with lusture, intellect, strength, immunity, clarity of functions of sense organs, can have intercourse with 100 females and free from vali (wrinkles) and palitaya (greying of hairs) increases life span to 200 years . If administered for two years it further enhances life-span upto 400 years and alleviates all diseases. All these effects are the secrete of this rasayana and worth using by sages.

1-2 years ( 1 year for disease cure, 2 years for rasayana effect)
